After a quiet and quite short night, we were ready to discover Kinshasa and cross off some to-do’s. We bought our simcards for the coming months, communication to the homefront is guaranteed! Tomorrows ride to Matadi is about 8 hours, so we went grocery shopping as well. Some delicious bread with giga avocado’s (read ‘gigavocado’s’) is our part. In the afternoon we went to deliver a refurbushed laptop to Dr. Zola. A doctor who helped Mama Lufuma with multiple medical issues, this is a great way to give something back. The hospital itself leaves most certainly an impression. Where Belgians complain about double rooms, here it’s 2
4 people per room (once an engineer…). Lack of proper medication and other resources make effective treatment a difficult task. It turned us silent and thankful at the same time. We went on to playing cards and getting ready for tomorrows trip while getting to see the Kongo river and Brazaville for the first time. At the moment of writing we were assured tonights dinner would contain better fries than in Belgium and better pizza than in Italy. This was of course not the case, the portions were larger though, see for yourself. A late night swim in the pool of our hotel could not miss, and oh man, was it refreshing. The inner child in Julian could not resist to play TAG, (tikkertje in ‘t Vlaamsch, acroniem voor touch-and-go voor de liefhebbers). A perfect end of the day and of our visit to Kinshasa.
