Vandaag begint het tweede deel van de reis; Antarctica. Vanmorgen konden we om 8:00 uur onze bagage inchecken bij Oceanwide Expeditions. Op de terugweg hebben we vanaf de haven alvast naar ons schip voor de komende twee weken gekeken. Daarna zijn we teruggegaan naar het hostel om te ontbijten.
Na het ontbijt zijn we richting het centrum gelopen om de laatste dingen te halen. Hierna hebben we in een café thee gedronken en een spelletje gespeeld. Nadat we de laatste souvenirs hadden gekocht, hebben we - op aanraden van onze gids van gisteren - Calafate (soort blauwe bes) ijs gegeten. In tegenstelling tot Dulce de Leche ijs is dit wel een aanrader.
Om 16:00 uur mochten we het schip naar Antarctica boarden. Terwijl we in de rij stonden te wachten, kwamen de crewleden zich voorstellen. Iedereen was erg enthousiast. Eenmaal aan boord, liep iemand mee naar onze cabin waar onze koffers al klaarstonden. We hebben een prachtige vierpersoons cabin voor ons tweeën.
Toen iedereen ingecheckt was, moesten we verzamelen op deck 5, de observation room, voor informatie en een safety oefening. Daarna was er een toost door de kapitein en kregen we een korte lezing over de weersvoorspellingen van de Drake Passage.
Na het avondeten hebben we nog even in the observation room gezeten, kijkend naar de vogels van het Beagle kanaal.

Today the second part of our journey starts; Antarctica. This morning we could check in our luggage at 8:00 am at Oceanwide Expeditions. On our way back we took a look from the port at our ship for the next two weeks. Afterwards we went back to the hostel to have breakfast.
After breakfast we walked to the city center to get some last things. Then we went to a café where we had tea and played a game.
Then, after buying the last souvenirs, we went for Calafate (kind of blueberry) ice cream since our guide yesterday recommended it. Compared to Dulce de Leche ice cream this is a better recommendation.
At 4:00 pm we could board the ship to Antarctica. While we were waiting in line, the crew members introduced themselves. Everyone was very enthusiastic. Once we were boarded, someone showed us to our cabin where our luggage was waiting. We have a beautiful four person cabin for the two of us.
When everyone was on the ship, we had to gather together on deck 5, the observation room, for information and a safety briefing. After the trial evacuation, we had a captain’s toast. Then we had a short lecture about the weather forecast for Drake Passage.
After dinner we sat in the observation room for a while, looking at the birds of the Beagle Channel.
