Franz Josef

Nieuw-Zeeland, Franz Josef

Day 16

After quite a short night we left Queenstown and went on our way to Franz Josef. Our first stop of the day was at Lake Hawea, which was a beautiful, large lake that is also known as ‘Blue Pools’. We then continued to drive until we arrived at Thunder Creek Falls. Here, there was a huge waterfall above a river. A really good view where I could have looked at the scenery for a long time if it weren’t for the sand flies. So, after being bitten by the sand flies for at least ten times, we left for our last stop before Franz Josef. This last stop was lake Matheson, a giant lake that reflects just as well as a mirror. However, for it to look like a mirror, the water has to be still and sadly for us there was too much wind today. We arrived in Franz Josef in the late afternoon and after dropping our luggage, Esther, Claire and I went out for dinner. In the night, we went to the bar at the hostel and then called it a day.
