Departure
Here it is, the moment I have been looking forward to for a very long time. Starting today, I will be traveling through North and South America for a period of about three months. Though it is something I have wanted to do for a long time, saying goodbye was a lot harder than I initially expected it to be.
In the weeks leading up to this moment I have done a lot of great stuff with my friends. I went out, ate Ikea hotdogs, celebrated New Year’s with Jip & Janneke champagne. I have to thank my best friend (shoutout to Imke <3) in particular, I am surprised to see how much we succeeded to get done in such a short time. Also, thank you to my friends and family who came to say goodbye and for all the cute survival packages.
I spent the last day in The Netherlands with Imke and my family, packing the last few items for this trip. Saying goodbye was one of the hardest things I have ever done, and I am glad I got to postpone it as long as possible. How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard? Logging off now, because it's time to board!
Day 1
Today, our flight left at around 11am from Frankfurt to New York. We flew with Delta airlines and even though I am not the biggest fan of flying, I sure was fan of this flight. We first got served a chicken caesar salad with parmesan cheese, tomatoes and croutons, a fruit salad and cheesecake. Our second meal consisted of a warm croissant with Turkey, parmesan and cheddar cheeses, stone baked four cheese pizza twist and a magnum ice cream. A whole new dimension of airplane food, a-ma-zing. Besides that, I had the best time watching Grey's Anatomy, Law and Order SVU, Harry Potter, and all the newest movies.
Upon arrival we stumbled upon the immigration queue, for which the waiting time was greater than 60 minutes. On a postive note, when we finally got through after two hours, we did not have to wait for our baggage anymore.
Due to a few broken trains and closed subway stations, we arrived at our AirBnb in Jersey City three hours later, exhausted and ready to sleep (at 6pm). And thus, after a quick trip to the supermarket, we passed out immediately.
