Day 75
This morning I woke up very early because of loud noises outside, immediately reminding me of the time spent in Bolivia. Nevertheless, I did not think much of it, and so after breakfast we made our way to the beach. However, when we tried to get to the beach, we were suddenly in the poorest neighborhood of Asunción. A local quickly came to us on and helped us in the right direction. Here however, a policeman told us it was not safe enough on the street and escorted us back to the street just before our hostel. There were demonstrations going on because of elections and the government's rearrangement of money. We stayed inside the hostel for a while, but there was not much to do, and so I went out again. I walked a little trough the streets in the city center and checked out the local market. I then made my way to the Tourist Information to try and find out what kinds of things there were to do in and around Asunción. I also learned here that the name Asunción was just an abbreviation of the actual name of the city: Nuestra Señora de Santa Maria de la Asunción. Then, I walked around on my own for a little longer, buying postcards and walking past all the big and historic buildings. I arrived back at the hostel after a few hours and stayed inside the rest of the day, sorting all my pictures and keeping up with the blog. At night I watched a movie with my friend Basima while simultaneously texting about it and afterwards it was already time to sleep.
