Day 29

Our flight landed in Arequipa around 6am, after a stopover in Lima from 1am till 4am. We took a taxi from the airport to our hostel, where we arrived around 7 in the morning. We looked up some things to do in the city and got ourselves some breakfast. At 10am we went on a free walking tour through the city. It took us to Plaza de Armas, the historical center, Fundo el Fierro, San Lázarro neighbourhood, and ended at Plaza Yanahuara. At the last stop we got to taste cheese ice cream (which does not contain any cheese whatsoever). From this last viewpoint, we could also see the whole city, and its three volcanos; Misti, Pichu Pichu, and Chachani. After the walking tour we went back to the hostel to change into warmer clothes as it gets quite cold at night, and then made our way to dinner. We had met a few people in the hostel who were going out for dinner and invited us to come with them. As we arrived fairly early, we first walked around Plaza de Armas and went into the huge cathedral. We then had dinner and a passionfruit cider at Las Gringas with a few girls from our hostel, as well as other backpackers.
