Day 17
After we spent the night at the airport (definitely not recommendable), our flight from Seattle to San Francisco left at 7am. The duration of the flight was less than two hours, and so there was only a short time for us to nap. We checked into our hostel around noon, after walking around in Chinatown and Little Italy for some time. After quickly settling in, we left to see the city. On our way towards the pier, we decided to pay a visit to St. Peter & Paul Cathedral first, as there were a lot of people heading in that direction. In front of the cathedral, a lot of people had gathered to celebrate Madonna del Lume, the blessing of the fishing fleet. We followed the line of people and eventually ended up on the Fisherman’s Wharf. There were nice souvenir shops, arcades, streetartists, it was one happy place to be. We walked on towards Pier 39, where sea lions were bathing in the sun. We walked past more souvenir stores and saw the Forrest Gump bench. There was such a nice atmosphere around this place. We then walked back from the pier, past the USS Pampanito, towards the hostel and took the Cable Car uphill (San Francisco has way too many steep hills). As our hostel was located in the middle of the biggest China Town in the United States, we had some nice Chinese/Vietnamese dinner and fell asleep almost immediately after.
