Day 66

Today was election day, and from what I learned from my time here in South America is that election day is not a day you want to be in the streets. However, Uruguay seemed like a more developed country, and so we decided to rent a bike for the day. We left in the morning and biked along the coastline, las Ramblas. We first went to the western side of the city, where we looked at the Cathedral of the most Holy Trinity. We parked our bikes in front of Theatro Solis, and walked around the old city for a while. We went to the pier and walked to the very end, where the lighthouse was located. Afterwards we went back to get our bikes and rode a little further up. When the shoreline stopped, we went a little into the city with our bikes and made our way back to where we started. From there on, we went up the westcoast, again along the coastline. The sun was shining really bright and there was a really strong wind, the views however were beautiful. While biking, there were a lot of people with the flags of their political party and also every car had at least one flag hanging out of the window. Eventually, we ended up with our bikes at the end of las Ramblas, the place there the Montevideo sign is located. We took a few pictures and from here on out, we went a little further to the Hard Rock café. As we had been biking for the whole day and it became quite late, we went back to the hostel, completely exhausted. Once back at the hostel we found out we were heavily sunburnt, but it was a great day nevertheless. It was also really nice to, just for once, see a peaceful election day.
