Khao Sok National Park

Thailand, Khao Sok National Park

Last week we stayed in Thailand's Khao Sok National Park. It is well known and one of the most beautiful places to visit in Thailand. It has a big lake that is surrounded with jungle and mountains.

2 January
After a 3 hour ride from Surat Thani we arrived way to late in Khao Sok with alot of rain.
We stayed in a bungalow at Nung's house for €10 per night. The bungalow was good for us and the staff at Nung's were very friendly. Especially "eat", the woman who owns it. Normally the check in was untill 20:30 but I called her and she said no problem we wait for you. So we arrived 2 hours later and she even still made some fried eggs for us!

3 january
I was not feeling to good, had some problems with my stomach and no energy. We went to bed early and woke up late. After lunchtime we went to the entrance of the national park which was only 500 meter away from our bungalow. We payed a 200BHT entrance fee and hiked about 8KM. The hiking trail is very good and is surrounded by jungle. We saw some monkeys on the way which were not afraid of people at all. After that we visited a small waterfall and then headed back, since it was already late afternoon.

On the way back we hang out at the Rasta Bar were we played some pool and card games. I lost every game😑 After finishing our drinks we went back to our bungalow.

4 Januar ---->
We booked a 2 day 1 night trip to the lake of Khao Sok and git picked up at 8 in the morning. After a 1.5hr drive we arrived at the pier and with a group of around 40 people we got devided in 2 boats who took us to the floating bungalows. When we arrived we got to go to our bungalow and settle a bit. We slept on a matras on the floor, but that wasn't a problem. After that we went into the water and canoed a bit which was funny. I never really did it before and we were circling more instead of going anywhere😂

After eating some lunch it was time to go back in the boat who took us to the jungle and a cave. They said we where going to get wet. We didn't had any watershoes so we just went with our sportshoes. We walked through the jungle over muddy roads and even through deep rivers. We were completely soaked but it was a nice adventure. After about 1 hour we reached the cave and putted our flashlights on. The cave had water flowing through it and some parts were pretty deep. We were climbing through the cave and saw some way to big spiders, fishies and bats. After about 1 hour we got out again and walked the same way back. The way back to the bungalow was cold because of the rainy weather, but we made the best out of it and stayed positive 😊

In the evening we all had dinner together which was good organised. They served grilled fish, curry and fruits. They also organised a night "boat" safari, but no one wanted to go because of the rain.

The next day I woke up early for the morning safari by boat. Nicole stayed in bed because the weather was shitty and she was tired. Gladfully the rain stopped when I entered the boat. We went to see some monkeys in the trees, but I was just watching the beautiful mountains and the jungle.
After that we went back and had breakfast all together. Today we were going to the jungle again, and we would visit a DRY cave. Unfortunately our shoes were still wet so we had to walk in them again.

We got into the boats again and went to the jungle. We had to hike for about 45 minutes uphill with muddy paths and then arrived at the cave. The cave was dry indeed and we saw some big spiders and bats. Other than that it was not so special and we went out again. At this time it was also enough for us. Everything was so wet and dirty.
We walked back to the boats which brought us to the pier again. A minivan was waiting for us there and brought us to Nung's House, where we would spend our last night. When we got back we went for a short jog and brought our stinky wet clothes to laundry. After that we finally had a nice warm shower!

Although the weather was not on our side, staying in Khao Sok National Park was very nice. We like being surrounded by nature. Also the 2 day trip on the lake was good. The scenery with the mountains is beautifull. When the weather would have been better it definitely would have been even more better, but we had alot of fun anyway.

In the evening we ate at an Italian restaurant where we ate pizza and red wine🙄
The next morning we left early to go to Khao Lak, were we hope to find some sunshine and a dive boat 🏝🌅🚢

Genieten dus. Groeten van hier, moi Henk Drenth.

Genieten doen We volop! 🖑
