Chiang Mai

Thailand, Chiang Mai

28 October

After flying from Den Pasar (Bali) to Bangkok I took the plane to Chiang Mai. I took the taxi to Deejai Backpackers Hostel. It was only 3 km away from the airport. I expected Chiang Mai to be a bit the same as Bangkok, but it's actually not. It is way smaller and less crowded/hectic. I rended a scooter the first 2 days and noticed my driving skill was more "sportive" then from the Thai people self. Oops, I guess I will have to slow down a bit, this isn't as crazy as in Bali!
The first night I met some Dutch people where I spent the night with. We went to this crazy Thai club where EDM music was being played. We paid like 10 euro entrance and we could drink the whole night for free, which ofcourse we did...😷

The next day I explored the city by scooter. I went to a shopping mall and bought a new camera. Its a newer version of the camera that broke down since my first week travelling. I'm happy I can finally make some good pictures again☺
In the afternoon I went up to the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep Temple. This is a temple on a mountain, from where you can overview complete Chiang Mai. It's beautifull and that's where I will go for a 4 day silence medition retreat. More upon this in my next blog.

So I stayed at this backpacker hostel where a lot of people are. I choose a private room to get some good sleep. This turned out to be a mistake. I was alone in Chiang Mai and wanted to meet new people. But since I was in a privat room, it was hard to connect with other people. I saw alot of people, but they were kind of decided in groups. I had problems with getting involved. One lesson I learned: don't go in single bed room if you want to meet up with other people. It costs way mor effort!

I spend the evenings on visiting the Saturday, Sunday and the regular night market. These markets offer a great variety of products to buy. This is also where you can get some of the best foods in Thailand!! I also went for massage in Chiang Mai and had trouble with finding a good one. The 3th one was finally satisfying. I went to a massagecentre were ex woman prisoners come to work. During their stay they learn how to massage, and gate they can get a job there to make some money. I don't know what the small little woman did to get in prison, but I know that she knows how to create a hell lot of strength with her body. I took a 1.5hr massage here and it was awesome! It's incredible how she used her body to get me in certain positions.

Om my last day in Chiang Mai, before going to Pai, I went fishing with some guys. We catched some big catfishes in a pond just outside the city 🐟
