As planned I had a reasonably early start, at least for me as I'm not the earliest riser and not the quickest in the morning. Still I managed to get away around 8:30 as I really wanted to be at the rice fields as early as possible. I read that most groups arrive around ten generally and it was about half an hours ride so that would give me some time to explore before the busyness would kick in.
The weather was lovely although a little chill in the morning if you would believe it so I had brought my knitted dress along just in case. The sun came through though, at least a little, and immediately it was hot and steamy again.
I found the Tegallalang Rice Terrases or fields easily, my scooter has a phone holder so I just followed Google Maps. After parking my scooter next to a bunch of other ones I crossed the road and was immediately approached by a lovely guy who could sell me the entrance ticket (only 10,000 RP) and show me the entrance.
Already from the road and a few cafes with views on the fields you could see the terrasses already and it was a stunning sight. The field lie layered down a valley and up the other side, all curvy edges which give the whole thing even more appeal. It's truly very beautiful with patches of rainforest flanking the paddies and tracks laid out all through for tourists, like me, to explore.
At the top and start of the tracks they built a swing on which they propel you over the valley for an exciting and unique perspective, if you would be so inclined. I'm generally pretty keen on a bit of adventure but wasn't too sure when I saw the construction - I didn't doubt its safety but wasn't too sure about my nerves.
