We stayed at a small place east of Sellfoss. There was a camping card campsite, so we could stay for one euro. We took our time to recover from the late trip last night. So we did sleep long, take a nice shower, having a nice brunch and made sure our water tanks were empty and filled up again. Then we moved onto the highlands again. This time we were going to drive the road north of the Mýrdalsjökull. This is the glacier north of Vik. It was a very nice road, very different compared to the the roads we did travel before. There was lot of green and a big zandspoelvlakte. When a lot of snow and ice melts from the glacier during spring, the water leaves the mountain by this plain, that's made out of black sand only. It can be dangerous to drive here when there is a lot of rain, because even with a lot of rain it is possible everything will be flooded. It was raining a bit this day, so we were on our guards. This day we also encountered a difficult river to cross. It has been raining a lot these days, so the rivers were bigger now and the current was a lot stronger. Some motorcyclists helped us to pick the right place to cross. For motorcycles it can be very hard to cross a river, so sometimes they better go without their bags and then walk over a few times to get their bags to the other side (dry). These motorcyclists just brought all there stuff over and were wearing like lieslaarsen to keep themselves dry. Another highlight of the day was driving through a river near a waterfall. Sounds like a bucket list thing, doesn't it ;) After our highland adventure we did spent the night at Vik again. And guess what... It was raining.
