Today we started our last day in the highlands, at least that is what we were thinking. Around the afternoon we finally reached the asphalt. In a small place we got some fuel. There wasn't a supermarket, but we still had enough food, so there wasn't any problem. We also talked to the person behind the information deck and asked him about the road conditions of the F208. He mentioned there were some river crossings again and to be carefull taking the one at Landmannalaugar and showed us a video the best way to cross it, and he said: " you're still in he highlands." And I realized that this town actually was only a place go get fuel to go on. So there we went again, sand, rocks, bumpyness and going 20 km per hour. Luckily the road was in better condition and we could drive a lot faster. The scenery had changed a lot. There was more green like grass and the mountains had all types of colours, it was very nice. Around 5 o clock we reached he campsite at Landmannalaugar. It was really crowded in contrairy to the other camps. There were a lot of people just coming for one day to hike the area. There were also a lot of small tents of people that were hiking more days. Landmannalaugar is also the start of the Laugavegur. The most known hiking trail in Iceland. After dinner we did do a hiking trail to the Brennisteinsalda. It was a very nice hike. First we went through the lava, then we went through a nice green valley with beautiful white flowers. Then we hiked up the mountain and had a really nice view. We couldn't find the path from there, so we asked other hikers. They didn't know the way either. After taking a good look around us and on the map, we found the way and we walked back together. This road was so nice. It was a little steep and exciting. The colours of the mountains were so nice and divers from green, red, yellow and black. There was also some volcano activity, like hot steam coming out of the ground. When we came back at the campsite it wasn't totally dark yet, so we decided to take a bath in the natural pool. There was a river with a hot stream and a river with a cold stream that joined together. In the beginning there was like a border between cold and hot. For the nicey warm water we had to sit precisely in between. Sometimes he border shift a little and then we were cold, but sometimes it shifted the other direction and then you almost burned. Later we we went bathing further in the river. There the water was mixed up some more. There the temperature was perfect.
