Om 9:45 werden we opgehaald om met Ted en iets van 35 andere toeristen op eilandtoer te gaan. Onze host Ted is een grappige, gevatte kerel die in Barbados 🇧🇧 is opgegroeid en vol zat met informatie. Ongelofelijk wat die vent kon vertellen over het eiland, de historie, cultuur, gewoontes en hij wist van zowat elke plek wat en wanneer er iets te doen is en details van alle eet- en drinkgelegenheden waar we voorbij gingen. Echt fantastisch.

De route ging langs de westkust omhoog met als eerste stop Speighstown, waar we heerlijk traditionele gerechten 🥘 konden eten. Daarna gingen we het binnenland in naar Cherry 🍒 Tree Hill waar Ted een grappige act uitvoerde met z’n zogenaamde tweelingbroer Rum Punch, die daarna kokosnoten 🥥 in elkaar hakte om rum cocktails te serveren met een aapje 🐒 aan z’n zij. Het uitzicht vanaf deze stop was adembenemend. Je kon uitkijken over zowat de hele oostkust met de ruige golven van de Atlantische Oceaan.

Toen reden we naar het mooie Bathsheba (aan de oostkust), waar we stopten om de fenomenale rotsformatie 🪨 aan de kust te bewonderen. We zouden vervolgens nog een fotostop hebben bij St. John’s Parish Church ⛪️, maar daar was net een uitvaart bezig, dus dat was geen goed moment.. De laatste stop was aan de zuidkust net voor Oistin’s. De bus zette ons na de stop af op de plek waar het die avond heel druk ging worden vanwege de beroemde vrijdagavond “Oistin’s Fish Fry”🎣🍤. Omdat we goed op tijd waren (17:00 uur) hadden we een prachtige plek vlakbij de muziek en na een heerlijke vismaaltijd gingen we huiswaarts, veel wachtende mensen achterlatend en terugkijkend op een fantastische eilandtour.

We were picked up at 9:45 to go on an island tour with Ted and about 35 other tourists. Our host Ted is a funny, witty guy who grew up in Barbados 🇧🇧 and was fully loaded with information. Unbelievable what this guy could tell about the island, its history, culture, customs and he knew just about every place and details of all the food and drink places we passed. Really fantastic.

The route went up the west coast with the first stop at Speighstown, where we could eat delicious traditional food 🥘. Then we went inland to Cherry 🍒 Tree Hill where Ted performed a funny act with his so-called twin brother Rum Punch, who then chopped up coconuts 🥥 to serve rum cocktails with a monkey 🐒 by his side. The view from this stop was breathtaking. You could look out over almost the entire east coast with the rough waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

Then we drove to beautiful Bathsheba (on the east coast), where we stopped to admire the phenomenal rock formation 🪨 on the coast. We would then have a photo stop at St. John's Parish Church ⛪️, but a funeral was just taking place there, so that was not a good time.. The last stop was on the south coast just before Oistin's. The bus dropped us off where it was going to get very busy that evening because of the famous Friday night “Oistin's Fish Fry”🎣🍤. Because we were right on time (5:00 pm) we had a beautiful spot near the music and after a delicious fish meal we went home, leaving many people behind still waiting and looking back on a fantastic island tour.
